Every now and then, I get an urge for something different by way of bread--not a sweet bread or a plain loaf, quicker than a yeast bread, and full of flavor. Everything Bagel Biscuits are the result of my savory bread urge. They are quick, have plenty of texture, and are salty, nutty, garlicky, and loaded with onion taste. The biscuits make a great appetizer to serve alone or with cheese and fruit, and they're great with salads. In my house, the bagel biscuits can fill in for garlic bread, and they're pretty good for a quick breakfast with a piece of cheese. This recipe makes only four everything bagel biscuits, so double it, if you want more.
Everything Bagel Biscuits -- Makes 4
3/4 cup of all-purpose flour
1/4 cup of quick oats
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/8 teaspoon of baking soda
2 tablespoons of butter
1 tablespoon of canola oil
3 tablespoons of buttermilk
1 1/2 tablespoons of Everything Bagel seasoning mixture
In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Cut in the butter with a fork until it breaks into small pieces. Cut in the oil with a fork. Stir in the buttermilk until the dough comes together. On a piece of parchment paper, pat the dough into a square or rectangle about 1/2-inch thick. Sprinkle half of the Everything Bagel mixture on top of the rectangle. Press the mixture into the dough with your fingers. Cut the dough into 4 squares. Flip the squares over and sprinkle the remaining bagel mixture on top of them, pressing the bagel mixture into the dough. Flip the squares over again, and press again, so all the seeds, etc., adhere. Cut two 6-7-inch squares of parchment paper, place two of the squares on each piece, and place one sheet in the air fryer. Cook the Everything Bagel Biscuits at 360 degrees for about 10-12 minutes or until a deep golden brown. Repeat the process with the remaining bagel biscuits.
