Have a Can of Biscuits? How to Make Quick, Easy, and Inexpensive Cream Cheese and Plum Tarts in Your Air Fryer

It's plum season now, and these easy plum tarts are a great way to use a couple of those large juicy plums on your counter! The tarts take minutes to prepare and air fry in about 20 minutes. They come out of the air fryer with a slightly crisp bottom, a nice, slightly sweet cream cheese layer, and a lovely topping of sweet, purple plums. I coat the tops of the tarts with a little plum jam for extra shine and flavor. Apricot jam would work well, too. The reason the tarts are so quick and easy is the use of refrigerated, canned, flattened biscuits as the base layer. You only need four large biscuits, so if you have a tube of eight biscuits, just air fry the remaining biscuits for dinner (or breakfast) for about 10 minutes at 320 degrees. We like the plum tarts plain, and they also are good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a pouf of whipped cream. Enjoy!

Air Fryer Plum Tarts -- Makes 4

3 ounces of cream cheese (light cream cheese is fine), softened

1 tablespoon of plum jam

1 tablespoon of sugar

4 large/grand size flaky layer biscuits from a refrigerated tube of biscuits

2 large plums, pitted and sliced about 1/2-inch thick

2 tablespoons of sugar

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Topping

2 tablespoons of plum jam

1- 2 teaspoons of water

1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice

In a cup or small bowl mix together well the cream cheese, 1 tablespoon of jam, and 1 tablespoon of sugar and set the mixture aside. Cut 2-4 small pieces of baking parchment to fit your air fryer basket. With your palm, flatten the biscuits out until they are 1/8 - 1/4-inch thick. Divide the cream cheese mixture out among the biscuits, and spread the cream cheese mixture out to about 1/4-inch of the edges of each biscuit. Top the cream cheese mixture on each biscuit with some of the plum slices, arranging the plums however you'd like (spoke, etc.). Sprinkle the plums with the 2 tablespoons of sugar and then dust on the cinnamon. Spritz the tops of the unbaked plum tarts with a little non-stick cooking spray. This will help hold the sugar/cinnamon in place and help prevent the plums from burning. Put 1-2 unbaked plum tarts on a piece of baking parchment (I have a smallish air fryer, so I bake the tarts one at a time), put the parchment in your air fryer basket, and air fry the plum tarts at 320 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the biscuit bottom is crispy and the plums are browned and bubbly. Repeat the cooking process with the remaining unbaked plum tarts. Mix together the 2 tablespoons of plum jam, water, and lemon juice. Microwave the mixture for 20-30 seconds or until it's hot. Spread the mixture on top of the warm, baked plum tarts. Let the plum tarts cool a little before serving them or serve them at room temperature. You can also make the plum tarts ahead and reheat them for a few minutes in the air fryer at 320 degrees.
